Why Guide Mental Health

Improved Access to Supports

Whether you are a busy working professional, a single parent, or an individual with health or mobility limitations, making time to access mental health services can be challenging. By offering assessments and therapy directly in your home (virtually or in-person) or in a public location of your choosing, we aim to reduce some of the barriers to receiving the help you need. By eliminating travel and the need for childcare, as well as reducing the difficulty of scheduling office appointments, we make fitting mental health services into your day more achievable.  The flexibility offered by our therapist also means that we are able to accompany you to appointments and help you to advocate for your needs within medical or educational settings.

A Holistic Approach to Mental Health Services

At Guide Mental Health, we strongly believe that for most individuals, emotional growth is best achieved when assessment and treatment involve the totality of the environment. This can include working with individuals and families directly in their home/work/school, connecting with other services providers, and involving support systems (such as family and friends) in the work.

This is especially the case for children, where their family environment is the largest determinant of emotional well-being. At Guide Mental Health, we believe that treatment practices that keep children and their families in their natural environment in order to do the therapeutic work, are generally more effective and have more sustainable gains.

In-the-moment Coaching for families

For many people, it can be difficult to transfer the skills learned in therapy to the home environment. Equally difficult is the ability to accurately notice and recall all that occurs within your physical and relational environment and to relate this information to your therapist during a session. By bringing the therapist to the family (instead of the other way around), we are able to join you in your environment and stand side by side with you as you navigate the challenges of your daily life. Through direct first hand observation, our therapists are able to provide in-the-moment coaching, and more targeted interventions for you and your family.
